GRIMOIRE Sewalong - Week 3

Welcome back for week 3!

By now you should be reaaaally comfortable with the FPP technique so you can level up to some more intricate designs. Go ahead and reference your planned layout, mockup or general plan to see which blocks you need to make.

Pattern Errata notice: we’ve found an oopsie in one of our block patterns! In the Fractured Crystal, Template J2, spaces 6-10 should be color B (Background color) not color C!

More complex FPP

To start with, pick an FPP block that is on the lower detail scale on page 8 of the Intro pattern. This will help you level up slowly, if you're new to the technique. You can also choose a traditionally pieced block, some may have curves or curve alternatives.

The Quill of Wisdom block, for example, has an alternate layout without curves, if you don't like those (example for curved stars on left, snowballed corner stars alternative on the right)

The traditionally pieced blocks may have small pieces. I have a video with a hack coming to my Instagram this week that can help with that! It shows you how to use "regular old" tissue paper to stabilize your smaller seams and snowballed corners. Keep an eye out for that!

If you'd like to level up your FPP game and get some gadgets to make your life easier, you can reference this Instagram post for some good tips! Especially the Add-A-Quarter PLUS and Add-An-Eighth Rulers have been a game changer for me. I also review different types of FPP papers in this Instagram post, if you're unsure of what to use for more intricate designs.

Start your blocks!

Now comes the fun part! Start your favorite blocks and enjoy using your creativity! If you have any questions about a block, you can contact the designer.
